Family Group Conferencing Services

To the Point:

What is Family Group Conferencing?

The Family Group Conference is where the entire family & extended family members and Kin can help make decisions about the best way to support the family and take care of their child or children during a difficult or transitional time.

It is a formal meeting in which the family of the child and a professional practitioner [or practitioners] closely work together to make a decision that best meet the needs of the child and family.

What is the goal of the conference?

The family decides what their goal or goals are for the conference.

The conference may take anywhere from 2-10 hours. It's up to the family.

Family Group Conferencing Fees

Family Group Conferencing fees: please contact Kids and Families Matter for rate information.

Snacks, lunch and drinks are provided.

Follow up Conference:

A 1 month follow up conference is offered and recommended for families who would like to have continued support to reach their goals.

Some families need to have weekly follow ups for the first month or two to help in the transition and implementation of the new family plan.

Others are off and on the go without any additional support.

Each family conference is unique to the family and will be designed accordingly to the family's needs and requests.

There are many benefits to Family Conferences including:

*Children have stability as the family work together in their best interest to develop and implement a plan with the children's best interest in mind.

*The children's wishes and feelings are considered.

*Minimizing and resolving conflict can increase safety for all family members. Continued high conflict case arguing and deliberations are seldom in the best interest of the children.

*Opportunities for parental alienation and or child/parent relationship hardship is reduced with an agreed upon implementation plan for the divorce/separation transition.

* Court fees and time are reduced when a family comes together to create a safe and functional plan that the Judge can accept.

* Family's are able to compete their parenting plans and move forward and out of the legal system.

*Legal fees are reduced as many if not all of the case issues are addressed and resolved and ultimately the Family's case is able to be closed.

*Family conferencing is much more affordable than mediation, depositions, and trial.
